It will take all of us working together to improve the health, well-being, and birth outcomes of Black women and babies in San Diego. This campaign is a tool to help ignite conversations about inequities, systemic racism, and help our health care community ensure the best outcomes for our Black mothers and babies.
The PEI Community Advisory Board (CAB) is composed of Community Members, and individuals from Community-Based Organizations, Birthing Hospitals, Birthing Centers, Non-Governmental Organizations and Local County Government.
CAB members meet quarterly to focus on interventions to reduce Black Maternal and Infant death and disease, and ensure the performance measures of interventions meet community needs.
Meetings are held from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Upcoming meetings
will be held on April 21st and June 23rd. Meetings are currently
being held virtually.

“Being a part of the advisory board and an advocate for my community of African-American women is a gift that I have been blessed to give. I am one the African-American women who needed assistance, education and moral support during my pregnancy. From experience, working with community partners will create success when saving babies and mothers’ lives.”

“I love knowing that meaningful work is being done to improve and ensure healthy outcomes for pregnant Black women, Black mothers and Black babies. I view being asked to join the PEI Community Advisory Board (CAB) as a sign of respect and saying yes as an honor. If you enjoy being a hands-on active participant doing community work, the CAB is a satisfying and rewarding cause.”
